Throughout town you will find many artists and artisans selling their pieces, and hanging out in the local coffee shops. For a small city of only 10,000, Nelson has a great arts scene, known throughout the province and beyond. The city itself looks over beautiful Kootenay Lake. The town has been built on the side of a mountain, so the further you go into town the better the view. The scenery is some of the best in the province, and brings tourists in droves. Not only do they come for the scenery however, as Nelson is an outdoor playground with a boating and golfing in the summer months and skiing in the winter.
The home prices in Nelson have gone up fairly significantly over the past 5 years. For a very isolated city (not close to any major centers), the demand for homes in the area are quite strong and the prices higher than you might expect. Nothing this nice comes that cheap however and not many of the residents of Nelson would take the isolation as a drawback.
