MLS - Multiple Listing Service
The multiple listing service is the primary database used by real estate professionals for properties listed for sale here in Canada. Realtors use this database to not only list their properties they wish to sell but also use as their primary search tool for finding properties for their prospective buyers. Properties are also available to be seen by the public through the websites MLS.ca or realtor.ca.
For most prospective home buyers their search begins online at the MLS.ca or Realtor.ca. It gives buyers the opportunity to get an idea of the type of home and locations that are available in their price range before going out with a realtor. Although there are not as many details in the public system, it is still a great resource to use.
Properties which are trying to be sold by owner or through private commission free services do not show up on the MLS. Properties listed by companies with discounted real estate commissions are available here (the commissions being charged are not for viewing on the public site).
