It is bounded by 5 municipalities, Vaughan and Richmond Hill to the west, Toronto to the south, Whitchurch-Stouffville to the north and the City of Pickering to the east.
Markham is a very culturally diverse municipality, with 65% of its residents being a visible minority. The largest ethnic groups residing here are Chinese, South Asian, Black Canadian and Filipino. This great blend of cultures gives Markham a flavor of its own that cannot be matched anywhere in Canada. At an average age of 38, the town is also a relatively young city with an energetic work force.
