Sitting on the east coast of Vancouver Island is the beautiful little city of Courtenay. With a population of just over 22,000, the city is small enough to have a great sense of community but big enough to have most of the amenities. Only 45 minutes north of Nanaimo, Courtenay is perfectly located to be far enough out of way to feel away from it all, but close enough that the major centers are not more than a couple hours commute.
For the outdoor enthusiasts, Courtenay is the perfect off-hill base for skiing in the Mt. Washington Ski Resort, which is located only 30 km away. Mount Washington is a favorite of many BC skiers which explains why this resort is the second busiest in the province behind Whistler Blackcomb. Mount Washington also provides excellent hiking, mountain biking, and horseback riding in the summer months.
